International Consultancy

John has undertaken consultancy and training work in an international context, most recently in China, Russia, Ireland and Canada.

China 2006

John was invited to be a speaker at World Aids Day, China 2006. (WADC, 2006)

"This was a technological, Commonwealth benevolent campaign as an echo to Global anti-HIV/AIDS action."

And John was "Welcomed to join us with the other World leading Scientists".

Having made a presentation at a seminar hosted by Options, John was invited to support WYG International, leading a project in partnership with the Federal AIDS Centre (FAC), developing a major Public awareness campaign to combat HIV / AIDS in Russia.

This involved a far-reaching Public awareness Programme focusing on different target groups such as Politicians, Legislators, high-level Public figures at the Federal level. The project was also active at Oblast level, working with the Regional AIDS Centres to focus on young people, including pupils in schools and students in higher level education.

John contributed to Policy development and on an EU-Funded (2.M Euro) policy development in the Russian Federation to enhance HIV / AIDS policy and practice. Much of the work took place in Moscow, in particular in respect of Federal issues, whilst two pilot Oblasts in different parts of the Federation were identified to undertake pilot initiatives that could later be widely disseminated to other Regions.

John was invited to return to provide training and consultancy with teachers, health professionals and youth workers in both Ulyanovsk and Ulan Ude.

John returned to Moscow to lead a 'master class' training for NGOs to improve professional practice across the Russian Federation.

"John is an exceptional speaker and trainer. His presentation made excellent use of PowerPoint which was appropriate for both expert and less informed people and was interesting and stimulating, despite simultaneous translation into Russian. He used humour and best-practice really well to facilitate and engage an International audience when giving an example of work developed for young people in the UK. Inspirational!"

Republic of Ireland

Moira Germaine, Respect Project Manager, Health Service Executive South, Ireland...

"I have had the pleasure of working with John Rees for three years in adapting and piloting a UK Sex Education Programme in an Irish setting. This extremely productive partnership is largely due to John's highly professional and engaging approach to all aspects of the work. John's ability to span the Education and Health sectors is impressive and forms a space where effective health promoting interventions can happen."

"John has demonstrated cultural sensitivity in adapting the material and training for the Irish context and this has resulted in extremely favourable evaluations from the adult and peer trainees. All have felt that the training was excellent preparation for the facilitation of the programme in the school setting."

"The success of the training is largely due to his authoritative grasp of the content and surrounding issues which allows him the flexibility to adapt training to suit the needs of participants. John's excellent social and presentation skills are critical to this success."

Guleph, Canada 2000

During the late 1990s and early 2000, John was a regular presenter at the annual International Sexual Health Conference Guleph, Canada.
